Greater Long Island Media Group’s growing list of community news websites tallied 536,886 page views in January — from over 307,000 visitors.

That was nearly an 83,000 jump in views from the 454,276 in December.

The sites topped 5 million views in 2020 alone.

“It’s just the beginning of what we expect to be a great 2021,” said the company’s editorial director, Nicholas Esposito. “Keep an eye out for some big news coming really soon.”

The company, named the region’s 3rd Best News Website from the Press Club of Long Island last year, has always reinvested its ad revenues in top-notch reporters and photographers.

“The goal is to be the best,” said Greater Long Island’s founder, Michael White. “We want to be the number one name in news on Long Island. And to be the best in this business you have to be first, be accurate, and be trusted.”

“That’s what we have always strived for,” he added. “Long Islanders respond to that because they know it takes initiative. Initiative is everything.”

January’s numbers were boosted by not only quality, timely content, but the growing popularity of the Greater Long Island Weekly newsletter.

“More and more people have been signing up to get our brand of local news delivered each Thursday morning to their inboxes,” White said.

The steadily growing readership is also driven by third-party news apps, online searches, Google News distribution and social media shares.

There are currently seven Greater-brand news sites, all operating in Suffolk County.

Greater Long Island Media Group Inc. expects to be operating 10 local news sites by summer, with more to come (and rapidly) in neighboring Nassau County.
