August is the month of fun in the sun! But it is also a time to begin the preparation for the coming new school year.
Besides a yearly medical exam update, you should also be thinking about a dental exam update.
It is very important to have good dental health because it affects your total health. You never want to wait until “something hurts” to start caring for your dental health — or for your children’s dental health.
It is also important for children to see a dentist no later than 3 years old, to make it a happy experience. If this is your child’s first visit, merely tell the child the dentist is only going to count the teeth with a tooth counter, polish their teeth with a tooth tickler, and place a special flavored sauce on their teeth to make them really, really strong.
Try to put the visit in a very positive perspective.
Then, maintain dental health with 6 month maintenance visits.
One way to prevent cavities is to have sealants placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Sealants are a hard composite flowed over the chewing surface and bonded into the grooves of the back teeth. This blocks bacteria from getting into the grooves and starting a cavity.
Most sealants last about two years before possibly needing to be re-applied. Also, keep away from fruit roll-ups, gummy bears, raisins, fruity-chewy snacks and any other sticky, high sugar foods.
To help accomplish these goals for our kids, Dr Joseph P Graskemper, The Bellport Village Dentist, is offering a back-to-school special courtesy offer. The idea is to better educate the children in our community about the needs of preventive dentistry with “Kids helping Kids.”
A cleaning, Examination, Fluoride Treatment, and all necessary X-rays for children ages 3 to 12 for less than ½ the regular fees: $100 or insurance form (normally $323). And, Dr. Graskemper will donate $2 to the Kiwanis of Patchogue Children’s Fund for every child seen to help needy children in our area. All you need to do is make an appointment by Aug. 31.
For your child’s introduction appointment or continued care for a happy, healthy smile, or even an appointment for yourself for a healthy smile, call The Bellport Village Dentist at 286-4243 or visit the website BellportVillageDentist.com.
