[Updated at 10:15 a.m., May 29: The movies are Space Jam and The Goonies]
Plans have just been finalized for a drive-in movie theater to pop up in Patchogue Village next week.
The dates are Friday, June 5, and Saturday, June 6, with the screenings happening in the parking lot behind Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Proceeds will help benefit the chamber, which has been ailing with hundreds of member businesses unable to operate due to coronavirus containment restrictions.
“Everyone came together and decided this was the perfect event for families and Patchogue to get excited about, while also feeling safe,” said Stephen King of Patchogue Young Professionals. “We felt this was a great way to create an awesome experience for the community, while supporting the Chamber of Commerce and encouraging takeout to help our local restaurants during this difficult time.”
Tickets are $35 per car (not per person). The same two-movie lineup will happen each night, Friday and Saturday, with Space Jam showing at 8:30 p.m. and [Update: The Goonies] showing at 10:45 p.m.
Lineup will begin on Oak Street a half hour before each showing.

Movie-goers are encouraged to order takeout first from a local restaurant to enjoy during the movie. Portable toilets will be on hand.
Indoor theaters have been closed for two months, due to restrictions in place to help control the spread of COVID-19. Across the world, drive-ins are gaining in popularity amid coronavirus lockdown measures.
“I’m glad Patchogue is finding so many unique ways to keep the downtown as active as possible during this time,” said David Kennedy, the chamber’s executive director. “I’m really proud of our Young Professionals group partnering with Plaza MAC to provide this. I think this is the type of activity you’re going to see a lot of throughout the summer season.
