The much-anticipated opening of Donatina Neapolitan Pizza Café has happened in Patchogue.

Yet hungry Long Islanders — known for their love of folding a slice — have been clamoring for the new restaurant’s thick and crunchy Detroit-style pizza.

So the Special Sauce cooking show met with Donatina owner John Peragine to find out what all the fuss is about. And, more importantly, what is a Detroit Pizza, exactly?

Donatina also serves New York-style pizza, both round and Sicilian, and thin Neopolitan pies cooked up fresh in the fire. Peragine has plans to introduce pizzas from other cities as well, such as St. Louis.

Donatina is located at 18 West Avenue in Patchogue, just south of West Main Street and across West Avenue from the county courthouse. Click here to follow Donatina on Facebook. Click here for the menu.
