The planets and stars have aligned, and the annual St. Patrick’s Parade and “May the Road Rise to Meet Ye 5K” in Patchogue is set for March 17.

That’s a Sunday.

It also happens to be St. Patrick’s Day proper and the traditional death date of Saint Patrick ( c. AD 385–461), Ireland’s patron saint.

Typically, Patchogue’s parade is around the holiday, but not on it.

The Village Board on Monday approved closing Main Street for the festivities.

The run starts at 11:55 a.m. in front of Finest Fitness and the parade commences immediately after. Main Street will be closed from Route 112 to West Avenue starting at 10:30 a.m. The road will reopen to traffic at 2 p.m., according to the village.

This year’s grand marshal will be announced during the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s holiday party night along South Ocean Avenue, which starts at the new Great South Bar at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Members of the public are invited, not just chamber members.

Call the chamber at 631-207-1000 for tickets.
