Brookhaven Town is teaming up with NBC 4 New York and Telemundo this Saturday as shelters across the nation make a big push to find homes for abandoned pets during NBCUniversal’s national Clear the Shelters Day.

A real-time pet “Adoption Tracker” on will record the total number of pets being adopted across all participating markets on Saturday — and the Brookhaven Animal Shelter will be reporting.

According to NBCUniversal, last year’s inaugural effort resulted in nearly 20,000 pets finding new homes with the help of NBC stations and animals shelters across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Adoption fees for dogs and cats are being waived at the shelter at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven Hamlet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The day will be capped off with Mrs. Sizzle’s Dogs Night Out dog parade at 6 p.m. in Bellport Village, where dogs will line up to watch the Brookhaven’s shelter dogs parade in cars down Main Street.

You can use the hashtag #ClearTheShelters or #DesocuparLosAlbergues to follow the effort on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Clear the Shelters-themed Snapchat filters will be activated on July 23.
