Original story: Hurricane Grill & Wings will be opening this spring on Route 112 in North Patchogue.
This will be Long Island’s eighth location for the popular beach-themed franchise bar and restaurant.
The owners are looking at early May for a grand opening of Hurricane Grill in the former CANZ-a-City Roadhouse location at 388 Medford Avenue, which is just north of Sunrise Highway.
“This is a family friendly place,” explained one of the four owners, Bob Engel. “Not really single guys hanging out. Our demographic is more for married people who want to go out with the kids and enjoy a game.”
“That doesn’t mean we’re not going to have a great happy hour,” he added.
Between Engel and his three partners, Vinny Greco, Dan Dollard and Dean George, they own four of Long Island’s existing Hurricane Grill & Wings locations.
Those are in Port Jefferson, Manorville, Garden City and Syosset.
Patchogue will be the first that they run together.
“We all just got together and decided to join forces [in Patchogue] and get it done,” Engel said.
To that end, the partners were found working this week on the interior of the restaurant, transforming it from the darker, more industrial decor of the restaurants that preceded it.
They’ll be establishing a bright, Florida-style oceanside vibe to serve as a backdrop for a menu that features wood-smoked mahi dip, crispy grouper sliders and firecracker shrimp tacos.
And, of course, wings — with 35 different sauces and rubs.
“We’re really hard working guys,” Engel said. “And we’ve been very fortunate. But we’re dedicated and committed. The food speaks for itself and the rest is just providing that experience and the great atmosphere.”
He also said all the partners’ locations have gotten heavily involved in the surrounding communities, be it through youth sports or community groups.
“What we try to do is overachieve,” Engel said.
